The freelance editing process for manuscripts is up to the author and depends at what stage you are at with your book. Your manuscript may be completed, you may have chapters completed or you may have only sections of chapters completed. In whatever stage you are at, I can support you.
If you have uncertainties about flow and structure, you will require a developmental editor—someone who helps you with the overall organization of the manuscript.
Then you may need copy editing. A copy editor will read through the manuscript at the sentence and punctuation level. For more information, please read the article on what a copy editor does.
When you receive your file(s) back, you'll see Comments and Track Changes. Comments will suggest structural change and query aspects of your writing; Track Changes will reveal all minor changes at the copy editing phase. I have written a brief article on how we collaborate with Track Changes.
Typically, the file may go back and forth a few times. You will make changes with Track Changes on as will I. Whenever possible, we use a secure file hosting service, such as Dropbox, which we can organize and upload the file into as we exchange our various edited versions.
