I used to write bios for people and discovered that it's difficult. Many people find it challenging to read about themselves in someone else's voice. I now encourage people to write their own.
This list is a combination of my lessons from running Brilliant Bios, my editing know-how, and my training for PR writing and writing for the web. I think you'll find these tips invaluable.
When we read a good bio, we know it's a good bio, but most of the time, we aren't certain what makes it good. It's not merely the content. It's the way it's written and presented.
A good bio answers our subconscious questions about the person and helps us decide whether to become a customer. We decide whether we can relate to and trust the person and his/her skills and work to help us with our "problem."
